Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate, took to his X handle to share his participation in two significant events in Abia State. Speaking as a guest at the Centenary Anniversary of Methodist College, Uzuakoli, and the Annual Meeting of Government Boys College Umuahia’s alumni, Obi highlighted the immense contributions of these institutions to Nigeria’s educational and national development.

Obi celebrated the rich history of both schools, emphasizing their roles in shaping prominent national figures. Methodist College, Uzuakoli, he noted, boasts an illustrious alumni roster, including the Late Dr. Michael Okpara, the first Premier of Nigeria’s Eastern Region; Clement Isong, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Cross River State; and Sir Egbert Udo Udoma, a distinguished jurist and former Supreme Court judge. Similarly, Government Boys College Umuahia has produced literary giants such as Chinua Achebe, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Elechi Amadi, and Christopher Okigbo.

Addressing students during the events, Obi encouraged them to value the education and moral guidance they receive from their teachers, urging them to emulate the achievements of alumni who have become pillars of society. “Always appreciate the formation you receive, both in learning and in character,” he advised.

Obi also lauded individuals and groups who have supported the institutions over the years. He called on alumni to continue investing in the growth of their alma maters as a means of contributing to national development. “The seeds of educational investments we sow today will grow into the harvest of national development in New Nigeria, which is possible,” he affirmed.

The events, which marked milestones for both schools, served as a reminder of the enduring importance of quality education in shaping a better future for Nigeria. Obi’s participation underscored his commitment to fostering educational growth and national progress.

As a staunch advocate for education and human development, Peter Obi’s engagement at these events reflects his unwavering belief in the transformative power of learning as a foundation for building a prosperous and equitable society.
