Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has formally presented staff of office and certificates of recognition to four newly recognized traditional rulers, emphasizing the critical role of traditional institutions in fostering unity, peace, and development across the state.
The event, held during the 119th and 120th Quarterly General Meetings of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Government House in Port Harcourt, marked a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to cultural preservation and leadership enhancement.
The monarchs honored include:
- HRM Winston Odiye Alamina, Oputibeya XII: Amanyanabo of Koniju Kingdom in Okrika Local Government Area.
- HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwoh (CSP Rtd): Eze Igbu-Ehuda IV in Ahoada-East Local Government Area.
- HRH Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari: Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area.
- HRH Prince Ike Ehie: Eze Igbu Orlukwor in Ahoada-East Local Government Area.
In his address, Governor Fubara urged the traditional rulers to prioritize service and responsibility over personal gains, encouraging them to work closely with the government to ensure the safety and well-being of their communities.
“Your recognition is not for personal aggrandizement but a call to serve your people by protecting lives and property in your domains,” Governor Fubara stated. He also warned against using their elevated positions to sow discord, highlighting the government’s authority to revoke recognition if necessary, though he expressed hope to avoid such actions.
The governor further noted, “I trust in your integrity and commitment to governance. Together, we can build a stronger, more harmonious Rivers State.”
The event also featured remarks from the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Engr. Charles Amadi, who praised Governor Fubara for expanding the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers. He noted that the inclusion of two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses signifies the administration’s dedication to strengthening traditional leadership across the state.
