In his New Year message to the nation, President Bola Tinubu extended heartfelt wishes for a prosperous and joyful 2025 to all Nigerians. The President’s address was marked by optimism for the country’s economic recovery, commitment to reforms, and a renewed call for national unity.
Acknowledging the hurdles faced by Nigerians in 2024, President Tinubu expressed confidence that 2025 would usher in brighter days. Despite economic hardships, he highlighted significant achievements, including a gradual reduction in fuel prices, three consecutive quarters of foreign trade surpluses, and a rise in foreign reserves.
The President pointed to the strengthening of the Naira and record growth in the stock market, which generated trillions of Naira in wealth. Additionally, a surge in foreign investment signaled renewed confidence in Nigeria’s economy. However, the high cost of food and essential drugs remained a pressing issue.
The President unveiled ambitious plans to address inflation, which currently stands at 34.6%, aiming to reduce it to 15% through targeted policies. The government is set to enhance food production and promote local manufacturing of essential drugs to alleviate the financial burden on households.
One of the cornerstone initiatives for 2025 is the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company. Slated to begin operations by the second quarter, the company will expand access to credit for individuals and critical sectors. This partnership between federal institutions, the private sector, and multilateral organizations aims to empower under-served groups, including women and youth, while fostering economic growth and industrialization.
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of patriotism, ethical conduct, and shared values in achieving national objectives. He announced plans to unveil the National Values Charter in the first quarter of 2025. This initiative, part of the National Identity Project, seeks to foster mutual trust and cooperation between the government and citizens.
A nationwide orientation campaign will promote patriotism, unity, and a collective commitment to Nigeria’s progress. The President also announced the commencement of the Youth Confab, which will engage young Nigerians as key contributors to nation-building.
The President urged governors and local council leaders to align with federal initiatives in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms to seize emerging opportunities. He commended states that have embraced the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative and the adoption of electric vehicles, pledging continued federal support for these transitions.
Expressing gratitude for the sacrifices made by citizens over the past 19 months, President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that their perseverance was not in vain. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to achieving sustainable growth and called on citizens to remain united and focused on building a prosperous Nigeria.
“Together, we will stay the course of nation-building and bring Nigeria closer to the bright future we all desire,” the President said, ending his message with a prayer for the country’s continued progress.
