Mallam Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has reflected on his remarkable journey from an Almajiri school pupil to leading Africa’s largest energy company. Kyari shared this on Wednesday via his X handle, @MKKyari, in a heartfelt message marking his 60th birthday.

Expressing deep gratitude to Nigeria, Kyari acknowledged the opportunities that propelled him from humble beginnings to his current role. He credited former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu for entrusting him with leadership as the last Group Managing Director of the NNPC and the inaugural CEO of NNPCL.

Reflecting on his life’s milestones, Kyari said, “Allah, by His grace, spared my life to this exceptional day, making it my 60th year from birth, even much earlier on the Hijri calendar. I am profoundly grateful to my country for allowing me to grow from an Almajiri (Tsangaya) school pupil to become the CEO of Africa’s largest energy company.”

Kyari recounted the challenges and triumphs of his life, describing them as a testament to Allah’s sufficiency. He emphasized his commitment to serving with even greater dedication in the future.

Acknowledging the sacrifices of those around him, Kyari expressed appreciation to his family, friends, colleagues, and teachers, noting their role in his journey. He added, “This is a turning point, and I seek forgiveness from anyone I might have hurt unintentionally or unavoidably.”
