A tragic incident unfolded in Nasarawa State when Timileyin Ajayi was arrested for the gruesome murder of his alleged girlfriend, Salome Eleojo Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. Salome had been serving with Nicon Insurance in Abuja before her untimely death.
The murder occurred when Salome visited Timileyin’s residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. Reports indicate that Timileyin killed and dismembered her, attempting to dispose of her remains when he was apprehended by the police.
On Tuesday, the suspect was paraded by the Nasarawa State Police Command alongside the weapons he allegedly used in the crime, including a knife and machetes. According to police statements, Timileyin was caught on January 12 while attempting to discard Salome’s severed head. He reportedly sustained injuries from an angry mob who identified him before his arrest.
In an exclusive interview with channels tv, Timileyin confessed to the crime, claiming it was not premeditated. When asked why he killed Salome, he said:
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time. It wasn’t something I planned—it just happened that day. She was cheating and hiding things from me. I found chats with other guys on her phone, and that’s why I decided to act.”
When questioned further, Timileyin expressed no remorse for his actions. He said:
“I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal. If you do something to someone, you should expect it in return. I thought we were compatible, but she betrayed me.”
Salome’s family, devastated by the incident, has denied any knowledge of her relationship with Timileyin. Her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, expressed her anguish and called for justice:
“We don’t know this man. We’ve never seen him before. We only found out about him when we were told he had murdered and dismembered my sister. I demand justice—he must face the consequences for what he has done.”
Salome’s uncle, Samson Adaji Adaidu, shared similar sentiments, recounting the horrific details of her death.
“He didn’t just kill her; he butchered her into more than 50 pieces. He packed her body parts into six polythene bags, as though he was preparing them for consumption. This is beyond comprehension, and we demand justice from the authorities.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the ongoing investigation and reassured the public that the suspect would face the full weight of the law.
“Upon concluding the investigation, the suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution. We urge anyone with relevant complaints or information about the suspect to come forward. Justice will be served.”
While rumors suggested that Timileyin was a gospel singer, he told reporters that he is a cryptocurrency trader. For now, he remains in custody at the Nasarawa State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department as investigations continue.
This heinous crime has left a community reeling and a family mourning the loss of a young woman whose life was tragically cut short. Authorities have promised swift action to ensure that justice is delivered.
