Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to poverty alleviation by launching a series of agricultural empowerment initiatives targeted at graduates and women in Kano State. The programs aim to integrate women and youth into the agricultural value chain, thereby enhancing household income and reducing dependency on government aid.

During a ceremony held in Bagauda, 340 graduates from the Institutes of Horticulture and Livestock received empowerment packages to help them become self-reliant. Graduates of the Horticulture Institute were provided with essential agricultural tools, training, water pump machines, designated business locations, and a seed capital of 100,000 naira each to support their startups. Similarly, 50 graduates from the Livestock Institute were each given two cows, while 90 others received two rams each, along with three months’ worth of animal feed and a seed capital of 100,000 naira.

In addition to the graduate empowerment scheme, Governor Yusuf launched the second phase of the Women Empowerment Initiative under the Livestock Fattening Programme of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP). This initiative provides three small ruminants to each beneficiary, supporting small-scale livestock entrepreneurship across the state’s 44 local government areas.

The initiative is designed to create sustainable income-generating opportunities for marginalized communities.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to donor agencies for their continued support, highlighting their role in ensuring vulnerable citizens are provided with equal opportunities. He emphasized that such strategic interventions are essential to fostering economic growth and improving the living standards of Kano State residents.
