The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Abia State chapter, has praised Governor Alex Otti for approving the full implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for all state-employed doctors.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the NMA State Chairman, Dr. Ezinwa Ezuruike, the association described the move as a landmark decision that restores long-awaited pay equity for medical professionals in Abia.

“The approval of 100% CONMESS, announced on April 29, is a clear demonstration of Governor Otti’s commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system and uplifting the welfare of health workers,” Ezuruike stated.
According to the NMA, the governor’s decision to align state doctors’ salaries with the federal structure reflects visionary leadership and a deep appreciation of the contributions made by medical professionals in Abia.
In addition to the salary adjustment, the association also lauded the government’s recent approval for the recruitment of 771 healthcare workers across various professional cadres. This strategic move, the NMA noted, is a timely investment in human resources and a critical step towards revitalizing Abia’s health sector.

“This development is not just a fulfillment of a promise—it is a call to renewed commitment and excellence in service delivery,” the statement read. “Our members remain dedicated to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Abia State.”The association also acknowledged the instrumental roles played by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Ngozi Azodo, and other key stakeholders in making the initiative a reality.
