The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has responded to recent allegations made by Atiku Abubakar Isah, a factional president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), against Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by the group’s National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere described the claims as “salacious, fallacious, and entirely unfounded.” The organization stated that its attention was drawn to the matter following media reports and social media posts where Isah reportedly made accusations linking Seyi Tinubu to issues affecting the student body.
However, Afenifere did not specify whether it conducted an independent investigation or contacted Seyi Tinubu to verify the details of the claims. The group’s position appears to be based on the political context and visual materials associated with Isah’s reported activities, including a banner displayed during his inauguration event featuring prominent opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi.

According to Afenifere, the presence of these political figures’ images suggests a broader agenda. “This is prima facie evidence that Mr. Isah is acting on behalf of political opponents of the President,” the statement said. “His actions seem designed to discredit President Tinubu by targeting his family, particularly his son, without substantiating his allegations.”
While condemning what it called an attempt to politicize student leadership platforms, Afenifere emphasized that such accusations, if unverified, could mislead the public and sow unnecessary discord. The organization advised caution and urged Nigerians to critically assess politically sensitive claims.
“It appears to be a proxy war against the President, his government, and his family, executed by political surrogates unwilling to act openly,” the group stated. “These tactics reflect a departure from civil and issue-based political engagement.”
Nonetheless, Afenifere stopped short of providing concrete evidence to counter Isah’s allegations or any indication that it had spoken directly to the parties involved. The group’s position, while strong in tone, rests largely on inference and perceived political affiliations.

The statement concluded by calling for responsible public discourse and warning against using youth platforms as tools for political manipulation. “The future of Nigeria depends on unity, integrity, and fact-based dialogue — not misinformation or character attacks,” the group added.
