Ekiti State, Nigeria – February 22, 2025 – Air Peace, Nigeria’s leading airline, has marked a significant milestone with the historic landing of its Boeing 737 aircraft at the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport. This event underscores the airport’s readiness for full commercial operations and signals potential partnerships to enhance air travel, trade, and economic development in the region.

The arrival of the aircraft was witnessed by top government officials and aviation stakeholders, with Air Peace Chairman, Dr. Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, receiving a warm welcome. His visit emphasized the airline’s commitment to expanding domestic air connectivity and fostering regional economic growth.

To commemorate the occasion, Air Peace shared a video of the historic landing on its official X handle, capturing the momentous event and showcasing the airport’s modern infrastructure. The video has since garnered widespread attention, with aviation enthusiasts and industry stakeholders praising the significance of the development.

Founded in 2013 by Dr. Allen Onyema, Air Peace has grown into Nigeria’s largest airline, offering both domestic and international flight services. The airline operates a modern fleet, including Boeing 737s, Embraer E195-E2 jets, and Boeing 777s, serving destinations across Nigeria, West Africa, and the Middle East.

Air Peace has played a critical role in Nigeria’s aviation sector, pioneering affordable air travel, job creation, and regional connectivity. Its expansion into Ekiti aligns with its broader mission to bridge transportation gaps and improve accessibility across Nigeria.

The Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, inaugurated in October 2022, was developed to enhance the state’s economic potential, particularly in agriculture and trade. The facility boasts a 3.2-kilometer runway, making it one of Nigeria’s longest, capable of accommodating large aircraft such as the Boeing 777.

The airport was conceived under the administration of former Governor Kayode Fayemi, with the goal of positioning Ekiti as a hub for agricultural exports and international trade. In December 2024, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) approved non-scheduled flight operations at the airport, paving the way for full commercial activities.

During his address, Dr. Onyema praised the quality of infrastructure at the Ekiti airport, describing it as “one of the best in the world.” He emphasized that Air Peace is committed to expanding its services in the region, which would stimulate economic activities and improve transportation access for residents and businesses.

“This airport is a game-changer for Ekiti State and beyond,” Onyema stated. “It has the potential to facilitate trade, attract investments, and boost tourism. Air Peace is ready to support this vision by providing world-class air travel services.”

The arrival of Air Peace at the Ekiti airport is expected to unlock vast economic opportunities, particularly in agriculture, commerce, and tourism. With direct air connectivity, businesses in Ekiti can access broader markets, while residents will enjoy seamless travel options.

As commercial flight operations are set to commence fully, Ekiti’s airport is poised to become a critical transportation hub, further integrating the state into Nigeria’s aviation network. This development not only benefits travelers but also reinforces Ekiti’s position as an emerging economic powerhouse in Nigeria.
