The demolition of Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites, popularly known as “La Cruise Hotel,” situated along the Onitsha-Owerri Road, has drawn widespread attention following revelations of criminal activities within the premises.
State authorities disclosed that the hotel served as a hideout for kidnappers and other criminal elements. A statement issued by the Anambra State News Media on X late Saturday revealed alarming discoveries within the premises, including over 30 partitioned graves on the top floor of the two-story building, a shrine, live ammunition, and other incriminating materials. Security operatives noted that the bust was part of an ongoing crackdown on criminal dens across the state. Additionally, blood-stained items and live cartridges were recovered and handed over to law enforcement at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office in Awkuzu.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime, confirmed the demolition, stating that the operation was executed by the Anambra State security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as Agunechemba, following an investigation that linked the hotel to kidnapping operations.
“The demolition was necessitated by credible findings that identified the hotel as a kidnappers’ hideout. Our investigation uncovered graves, army uniforms, live cartridges, and other incriminating items. The local community had long complained of frequent gunshots at night but feared reporting the incidents due to possible reprisals,” Aburime stated.
In a video shared on Sunday, the team leader provided insights into the findings, stating, “We discovered a shrine, live ammunition, and cartridges while dismantling the pot used for their rituals. The pot, containing blood, has been handed over to the police as evidence.”
He further revealed, “The top floor of the hotel contained well-partitioned graves for over 30 individuals alongside the shrine, where spiritual activities were conducted.”
He added that the newly enacted Homeland Security Law of 2025 has empowered both citizens and security agencies to take decisive actions against criminal elements.
“We are making significant strides in eradicating criminal activities in Anambra State. This firm action is producing tangible results. More structures associated with crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, and contract killings will be demolished, and their owners prosecuted,” he affirmed.
Local residents have commended the demolition, expressing relief and appreciation to the government for addressing the long-standing security concerns in the area.
