The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has expressed strong support for the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket to the South and the reaffirmation of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
In a statement issued in Yenagoa on Tuesday, the Bayelsa State PDP, led by its Acting Chairman, George Turnah, hailed the decisions reached at a recent strategic meeting in Abuja convened by the G5 group, which includes prominent figures like the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Also in attendance at the June 9 meeting were former Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Turnah described the resolutions as a firm commitment to the unity, survival, and internal democracy of the PDP. He emphasized that the gathering demonstrated Wike’s enduring loyalty to the party and his consistent fight against internal injustices and impunity.
In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Derri Wright, Turnah praised Wike’s leadership and commitment to the founding principles of the PDP, noting that these qualities have earned him admiration from genuine party faithful across the country.

“We fully support the outcomes of the Abuja meeting. As the Bayelsa State chapter of the PDP, we affirm that there is no vacancy in the office of the National Secretary that warrants any form of replacement,” the statement read.
The party highlighted that both the PDP Constitution and a recent Supreme Court ruling have settled the issue concerning the position of National Secretary, leaving no ambiguity.
The statement further added: “We align ourselves with the collective decision of respected party leaders and stakeholders from across Nigeria to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South. This decision not only upholds the principles of fairness and inclusivity but also ensures the PDP stays connected to the aspirations of Nigerians from all regions.”
Reaffirming its support for Nyesom Wike as a national leader and Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary, the Bayelsa PDP pledged its commitment to working towards restoring the party’s position as a symbol of hope, equity, and justice.
