Delta State has firmly denied rumors suggesting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is considering defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In response to persistent speculation over the past three weeks, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Charles Aniagwu, addressed the media in Asaba on Monday. He dismissed the claims, affirming that Governor Oborevwori is a dedicated and “proud member” of the PDP with no intention of leaving the party.

Aniagwu, recently tasked with overseeing the state Information Ministry in addition to his role in the Works Ministry, criticized the unfounded reports. “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains a committed leader within the PDP. His loyalty to the party is unwavering, and he has no plans to defect,” he stated.

Highlighting the governor’s focus, Aniagwu stressed that Oborevwori is prioritizing governance over political distractions. “Rather than engage in political battles, the governor is committed to delivering substantial infrastructural projects for Delta State residents as 2027 approaches. His dedication is to ensuring every Deltan enjoys the dividends of democracy.”

Aniagwu further clarified that the governor’s support for President Bola Tinubu stems from a governance perspective, not political alignment. “Governor Oborevwori understands that collaborating with the federal government benefits Delta State. This cooperation is about governance, not politics,” he explained.

Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Festus Ahon, Aniagwu also outlined the administration’s efforts in enhancing community connectivity and economic growth. “Governor Oborevwori is fostering unity by building bridges between communities, promoting business interactions, and encouraging stronger ties among neighboring local government areas.”

The commissioner emphasized the governor’s commitment to both completing inherited projects and initiating new ones. Key projects under execution include the Okpanam-Ibusa bypass, the Beneku Bridge, the Asaba/Ughelli dual carriageway—particularly in sectors C1, C2, and ongoing repairs in Sector B—and the six-story High Court Complex in Asaba.
