The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has named the administrative block of its Academy in Karu, Abuja, after the late Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE 1 Aminu Sahabi Salisu, who tragically lost his life during an operation in Anambra State on January 17, 2025. Salisu was killed while on duty, and his bravery and sacrifice were honored during the Annual Rewards and Recognition Ceremony held at the EFCC Academy on January 25, 2025.
EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, made the announcement, stating that Salisu’s dedication and ultimate sacrifice would always be remembered. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our officer while he was on official assignment. He was a courageous and committed officer. In recognition of his service, the administrative block of the Academy will now bear his name,” Olukoyede said.
Salisu’s death occurred during an EFCC raid in Awka, Anambra, where he was fatally attacked by an alleged internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, who was later apprehended by the Anambra State Police. Following the tragic incident, Salisu was flown to Sokoto State for burial.
The ceremony also recognized 36 officers of the Commission for their outstanding performances in various categories, including highest recovery, highest conviction, best departmental staff, best zonal directorate, and staff of the year. Olukoyede congratulated the awardees and encouraged continued excellence, stating, “Excellence is not about doing things right once in a while; it is about doing things right consistently.”
Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, Alvan Gurumnaan, was named Staff of the Year, while the Sokoto Zonal Directorate was awarded Best Directorate of the Year. Other notable awardees included Bitrus Yakubu, Katmi Kefas, Halilu Dauda, Nenman Danladi, Oluwakemi Aaron, Yusuf Umar, Michael Adukwu Uchechika, and David Solomon.
In addition to honoring its officers, the EFCC Chairman also announced the promotion of 900 staff members and the reinstatement of life and property insurance for the workforce. He issued a stern warning against compromising the Commission’s core values, stressing that ongoing internal reforms would hold all staff accountable.
Through these initiatives, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not only pays tribute to its fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of justice, but also reinforces its commitment to uphold the values of integrity, dedication, and resilience. By recognizing their contributions, the EFCC honors the legacy of those who have fought valiantly to safeguard the nation’s financial systems. Additionally, these actions serve as a powerful motivation for its current and future workforce, inspiring them to continue striving for excellence in the relentless fight against corruption. The continued remembrance of these heroes bolsters the organization’s resolve to maintain its high standards and unwavering determination in tackling financial crimes, ensuring a fairer, more transparent society for all.
