After spending two weeks on a private visit to the United Kingdom, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, made his first public appearance on Sunday at a Thanksgiving Service organized by the Boys Brigade Metropolitan Battalion Council of Nigeria in Port Harcourt.
The event, which held at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, was officiated by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, and celebrated the successful conclusion of the Brigade’s religious camp activities for the year. According to a statement from Fubara’s media aide, Nelson Chukwudi, the service also featured special prayers for the governor, his family, and for peace to reign in Rivers State.
Fubara, who was accompanied by Amaopusenibo Fubara Hart and Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, appeared calm and composed during the service—marking a significant moment since political tensions erupted in the state.
Governor Fubara’s return to Nigeria comes at a politically sensitive moment, as he faces fresh allegations from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and his former political mentor, Nyesom Wike. Wike claims that Fubara was behind the disruption that prompted a walkout by participants during a women empowerment programme organized in Port Harcourt by the Office of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The development has cast new doubt on the fragile reconciliation process between both political figures, raising fresh concerns over unity and governance in Rivers State.
