Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday received members of the Muslim community under the aegis of the Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs, who paid him a courtesy visit in celebration of Sallah. The delegation offered prayers for the governor and his family, expressing their unwavering support for his administration.
During the meeting, Governor Fubara reassured the Muslim community of his administration’s commitment to upholding justice, equity, and religious harmony in the state. He emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence among all religious and ethnic groups, reaffirming his stance against any form of oppression or discrimination.
“We are a government that stands for what is right and just,” Fubara stated. “No individual or religion will be oppressed under our leadership. Our goal remains to build a society where fairness, inclusivity, and progress thrive.”
The visit comes at a time when Governor Fubara continues to navigate a turbulent political landscape since assuming office in May 2023. His tenure has been marked by a power struggle with political forces aligned with his predecessor, former Governor Nyesom Wike. The rift between the two political figures has resulted in legislative conflicts, alleged impeachment threats, internal divisions within the Rivers State government and the suspension of the governor for six months by president Tinubu.
Despite these challenges, Fubara has remained resolute in his commitment to governance, focusing on infrastructure development, economic revitalization, and social welfare programs for the people of Rivers State. His leadership has gained support from various groups who see his administration as a beacon of hope for a more transparent and inclusive governance structure in the state.
The governor expressed gratitude for the prayers and solidarity shown by the Muslim community, urging them to continue contributing to the peace and development of Rivers State.
“Our state is bigger than any individual or political differences,” he added. “With God on our side and the unwavering support of the people, we will overcome every challenge and achieve the greater future we envision.”
As Rivers State continues to witness dynamic political shifts, Fubara’s leadership and ability to navigate the complexities of governance will remain a focal point in the state’s political landscape.
