Enugu, Nigeria – In a landmark move aimed at transforming the commercial landscape of Enugu State, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has signed an Executive Order establishing the Enugu International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Traders Park. The new facility, strategically located in Nsude, Udi Local Government Area, and Ogwofia Owa, Ezeagu Local Government Area, is set to replace the long-standing Coal Camp Spare Parts Market and other allied businesses within the Enugu Capital Territory.

The decision to relocate the market comes as part of the state government’s broader vision to modernize commercial hubs, ensuring they meet global standards for efficiency and sustainability. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Mbah emphasized that this initiative is a long-overdue fulfillment of promises made to traders, who for decades have awaited a well-structured and secure business environment.

“For years, our traders have been assured of a world-class market that would support their growth, yet those commitments remained unfulfilled. Today, we are turning that vision into reality,” the governor declared. “This relocation is not just about moving businesses; it is about creating a thriving, purpose-built commercial hub that guarantees safety, organization, and long-term prosperity.”

Located along the Enugu-Onitsha Road, the new market has been meticulously planned to cater to the needs of traders and allied businesses. It will feature modern infrastructure, including well-laid-out roads, clinics, a fire service station, truck parks, warehouses, and ample parking spaces. Unlike the previous market model, where traders rented shop spaces, the new facility offers full ownership of commercial units, empowering business owners with long-term security and investment opportunities.

Beyond commerce, the new development integrates essential amenities designed to enhance the quality of life for traders and their families. Provisions have been made for modern residential areas, smart schools, healthcare centers, a dedicated police station, and recreational facilities. This comprehensive approach aims to foster a self-sufficient business community, ensuring that commercial activities can thrive in a well-supported ecosystem.

Governor Mbah also highlighted the economic impact of the project, describing it as a key component of his administration’s plan to strengthen Enugu’s commercial infrastructure and boost the state’s economy. His commitment to large-scale development projects was further demonstrated months ago when he signed an agreement with Landmark Africa Group to transform Nike Resort into a world-class destination, reinforcing Enugu’s position as a growing hub for investment and tourism.

He acknowledged the leadership of the Enugu Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association, led by Chief Michael Nomeh, for their cooperation and commitment to making the transition seamless.

“This initiative goes beyond just relocation; it is a strategic investment in the future of our economy. By strengthening the 9th Mile business corridor, we are paving the way for a more prosperous commercial environment and driving Enugu closer to achieving a $30 billion GDP economy,” Governor Mbah stated.

With construction and development set to progress in the coming months, the state government is optimistic that the transition will be smooth, ushering in a new era of structured and sustainable commerce for motor spare parts dealers and allied traders across the region.
