In a move reflecting both sensitivity to national tragedies and a commitment to internal party affairs, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its zonal congresses initially scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2025, across the North-Central, South-South, and South-West regions.
The postponement, according to a statement released by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, was necessitated by two key developments: the party’s expression of solidarity with the government and people of Plateau State following recent deadly attacks, and the need to allow PDP governors from the affected zones to fully participate in the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting taking place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on April 13 and 14.
As part of the rescheduling, the PDP has fixed Wednesday, April 16, 2025, for the South-West Zonal Congress, while fresh dates for the North-Central and South-South congresses are expected to be announced at a later time.
In the interim, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has mandated the Chief Emmanuel Ogidi-led South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee to continue steering the affairs of the party in that zone. This directive is in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution, amended in 2017, until a new zonal leadership is elected.
Stakeholders and institutions integral to the party’s processes—including members, electoral bodies, the media, security agencies, and the general public—have been urged to take note of the revised schedule and align with the new development.
