Jubilations have erupted in the Mpu community of Aninri Local Government Area, Enugu State, following the return of Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, from a United Kingdom prison.
According to Punch online, Beatrice, her husband, and one Obinna Obeta were convicted and sentenced in 2023 by a UK court for their involvement in an organ-trafficking plot. Beatrice, returned to Nigeria on Tuesday and is currently in Abuja.
The President of Mpu Town Union Federated, Mr. Benjamin Chijioke, expressed the community’s relief and joy over her return during a celebration held in her honor. He noted that the entire community has been in a celebratory mood since morning, with people shedding tears of joy, particularly those who had benefited from the family’s philanthropic gestures.
Similarly, the councillor of Mpu Ward, Ogbuka Edwin, expressed gratitude for Mrs. Ekweremadu’s return and emphasized the significant impact her absence, alongside her husband’s, had on the community.
“Today feels like a public holiday in Mpu Community,” Edwin stated. “The news brought immense joy. We have missed their presence, but we remain hopeful and prayerful for Senator Ekweremadu’s return. It is a celebration galore.”
Chijioke further stated, “Today is our Orie market day, and the entire market was filled with excitement and celebration. We thank God and also pray that He intervenes so that our illustrious son and leader, Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will join his family soon. Their absence has been a huge setback for the community.”
The community continues to hold prayers and express optimism for Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s release, anticipating his return to reunite with his family and resume his contributions to the community.
