The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, April 18 and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays in celebration of Good Friday and Easter Monday.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and detailed in an official statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Easter: A Time for Reflection, Love, and Hope
Easter is one of the most important festivals in Christianity. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, three days after His crucifixion. Good Friday, observed on April 18, marks the day Jesus was crucified, while Easter Monday, on April 21, continues the celebration following His resurrection.
The Easter season is a time for Christians to reflect on the values of sacrifice, love, and redemption. These values are not only spiritual but also serve as a moral compass for humanity.
Minister Urges Nigerians to Embrace Unity and Peace
Dr. Tunji-Ojo, in his Easter message, emphasized the need for Nigerians to embody the virtues of Christ by showing love, kindness, and selflessness. He called on citizens to pray for national peace, unity, and stability, especially during these challenging times.
He also reiterated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring Nigerians that the government is focused on policies and reforms that foster national development.
“Let us show love to one another, promote harmony, and extend acts of kindness to our neighbours. These small efforts can lead to a stronger, more united Nigeria,” he said.
Holiday Wishes from the Government
The minister concluded by wishing Christians a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration, while extending warm holiday greetings to all Nigerians.
