The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has raised concerns over persistent unprofessional conduct by a minority of its officers, which continues to tarnish the reputation and integrity of the institution. Despite ongoing disciplinary measures and public admonitions, some officers remain involved in unethical practices, undermining public trust in the police.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF also decried the fraudulent use of the name and office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to carry out illegal activities. According to the statement, perpetrators exploit the IGP’s name to intimidate victims, often convincing them that their actions have official approval, thereby discouraging complaints or reports to higher authorities.
The NPF has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any misconduct by police officers to appropriate channels. Citizens are encouraged to contact state Complaint Response Units (CRUs) or the Commissioner of Police in their respective states.
To enhance accessibility, the NPF provided the following contacts for reporting misconduct and fraudulent activities:
- DCP Akin Fakorede (Head, IGP Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja): 08184077076
- ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi (Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja): 08037168147
- CSP Taiwo Oyewale (Head, IGP Special Investigation Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja): 08069318238
- SP Sherriff Lawal (Aide-de-Camp to the IGP): 08094712605
The NPF emphasized its unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. It also called on Nigerians to cooperate by reporting suspicious or unethical activities to ensure justice and fairness prevail.
The Force reassured the public of its dedication to fostering accountability and trust while rooting out misconduct within its ranks.
