The Nigerian and UK nursing communities are mourning the sudden and tragic death of Nnena Miriam, a Nigerian-born nurse based in Leeds, United Kingdom, whose lifeless body was recently discovered in her apartment after she was declared missing.
According to reports from Fellow Nurses Africa, a professional body committed to the advancement of African nurses, concern was raised after Miriam failed to show up for work and could not be reached via phone. A close friend, alarmed by the prolonged silence, filed a missing person report which led to the police gaining access to her apartment. There, they discovered her deceased.
“She was last seen during her Sunday shift. When her friend couldn’t reach her after multiple attempts, the missing person report was filed. Unfortunately, officers later found her dead in her room,” the group stated in an official release.

The late nurse had recently returned to the UK following an introductory marriage ceremony in Nigeria, with plans for her traditional wedding underway. According to those close to her, April 29 was meant to mark the beginning of a new chapter in her life — one filled with celebration and joy.
“Instead, we are left with heartbreak, unanswered questions, and a deep sense of loss,” the statement from Fellow Nurses Africa continued.
Described by colleagues as a compassionate and hardworking professional, Miriam was admired for her commitment to patient care and her resilience in the face of challenges. Her passing has been labeled a significant blow to the healthcare community she served.
“She was not just a nurse; she was a beacon of kindness, professionalism, and integrity,” one colleague shared.
While investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing, tributes have poured in from fellow nurses and friends across the globe.
This tragic incident follows a similarly heartbreaking event in March 2024, when another Nigerian caregiver, Chidimma Ezenyili, collapsed while attending to an elderly client in the UK. She passed away two days later.
