In a firm rebuttal to recent criticisms, the Federal Government has dismissed allegations suggesting partiality in its appointment processes, assuring Nigerians that all federal appointments are carried out in full compliance with constitutional provisions, particularly the federal character principle outlined in Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
This clarification comes in the wake of comments made by Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, who alleged in an interview with Arise Television that President Bola Tinubu has shown favoritism in federal appointments, breaching the federal character requirement. Ndume’s remarks sparked widespread discussion across social media and other platforms.
Responding through an official statement on Friday, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) described the allegations as baseless and aimed at distorting public perception. The statement, signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to fairness, inclusion, and national cohesion.
“The claims being circulated are misleading and do not reflect the reality of this administration’s approach to governance,” the statement said. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains deeply committed to the unity and equitable representation of all regions and groups within the country.”
Highlighting the government’s guiding principles, the OSGF reaffirmed that all appointments are made with consideration for national diversity and inclusiveness, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
Furthermore, the government called on the public to rely on verified information from official sources, rather than social media commentary, which it warned could be driven by divisive intentions. It reiterated that the OSGF remains the central and authoritative body for all matters concerning federal appointments.
As part of its concluding message, the government urged Nigerians to remain focused on the collective goal of building a unified, prosperous nation, assuring citizens that inclusivity remains at the heart of its governance strategy.
