The Obidient Movement has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, is set to become a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a potential opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.

In a statement released Monday by the group’s Director of Strategic Communications, Nana Kazaure, the movement described the claims as unfounded and misleading, urging the public to disregard the report.

According to Kazaure, the group has received a flood of inquiries from supporters both within and outside Nigeria following the publication of the story. She clarified that the article in question lacks credibility and does not reflect any actual discussions or agreements involving Mr. Obi.

“While discussions with other political stakeholders continue in the spirit of national development, there is no agreement—formal or informal—between Peter Obi and any opposition figure regarding a joint presidential ticket for 2027,” the statement said.

The Obidient Movement emphasized that Mr. Obi’s political engagements remain focused on addressing the country’s pressing challenges, including widespread poverty, systemic corruption, poor healthcare, and the growing number of out-of-school children.

“Our mission is to build a coalition that seeks meaningful reform and puts the welfare of Nigerians first—not to pursue power for its own sake,” Kazaure added.
