The long-overdue renovation of the Onitsha Divisional Library marks a significant step in enhancing educational infrastructure in Southeastern Nigeria. Spearheaded by Onitsha North LGA Chairman Tony Nwora, with strong advocacy from education champion Alex Onyia, this initiative aims to modernize learning spaces and improve educational access in the region. Following productive discussions between Onyia and Nwora, the project has become a priority for the local government, reflecting a shared vision for educational development and community empowerment.

Onyia, who has long been dedicated to improving access to education, revealed that his initial conversation with Chairman Nwora centered around securing written permission for the involvement of his organization, SEEI (Smart Education and Empowerment Initiative), in the library’s redevelopment. However, the discussion quickly evolved into a broader commitment from the local government, with Nwora making it his administration’s first major project.

Nwora, a former educator in the United States, has personally inspected the library multiple times and actively engaged with contractors to ensure a swift and thorough renovation process. According to Onyia, work on the library is set to begin on or before April 1st, with completion expected in record time.

“Our discussions have been very productive. Tony Nwora shares the same passion for education, and he has taken personal responsibility for this project. We have offered him our continuous support, but this is one we won’t need to raise funds for—it’s happening,” Onyia shared in a recent post.

This development is just the latest in Onyia’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational resources in the region. Over the years, he has led numerous initiatives aimed at providing better learning opportunities for students in underserved communities. His previous projects have included establishing digital learning hubs, distributing educational materials, and advocating for policy reforms that prioritize education.

His persistent advocacy has garnered widespread support, with many hailing him as a transformative figure in the education sector. Through SEEI, Onyia has empowered countless young learners, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
