In a move that has left many citizens questioning its priorities, the Bauchi State Government has allocated a substantial N400 million in its 2025 budget for the purchase of six computers for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). This expenditure is part of a broader budget that includes N1 billion for land acquisition to construct new offices and buildings, as well as N170 million for a generator dedicated to powering the SSG’s office, Guardian Reported
Public affairs analyst Ibrahim Musa has strongly criticized these budget proposals, describing them as a stark contrast to the economic sacrifices being demanded of Nigerians. According to Musa, such spending demonstrates a lack of prudence and disconnect from the hardships faced by ordinary citizens.
“How can the government justify spending N400 million on six computers when millions of Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet?” Musa questioned. “This amount could build multiple primary healthcare facilities, bringing essential services closer to underserved communities. Instead, we see recurring patterns of wasteful spending in the government’s budget.”
Musa also emphasized the need for government leaders to set an example of fiscal responsibility, especially in challenging economic times. He urged the Bauchi State Government to channel resources into initiatives that would have a meaningful impact on citizens’ lives, such as healthcare and education.
Similarly, Sule, another political figure, highlighted inefficiencies within governance as a barrier to progress. He revealed that his recent cabinet dissolution stemmed from the incompetence of some appointees and called for better accountability among government officials.
As the debate over Bauchi’s budget allocations continues, critics are calling on the state government to reevaluate its priorities and focus on projects that address the immediate needs of its people, rather than extravagant expenditures that offer little value to the majority.
