Enugu, Nigeria – The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has called for renewed unity and collective action among the Igbo people during the election of a new national leadership for Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. The governor made the appeal while congratulating Senator John Azuta-Mbata and Chief Emeka Sibeudu on their emergence as President-General and Secretary-General, respectively.

Speaking at the event, Mbah highlighted the ongoing relevance of the circumstances that led to the establishment of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the 1970s, stressing the importance of prioritizing the collective interests of the Igbo community above partisan politics and narrow affiliations.

ohaneze ndi igbo

ā€œOhanaeze Ndigbo represents the soul of our people,ā€ he remarked. ā€œIt is a testament to the enduring vision of our forebears, who understood that unity is a formidable force. From the Igbo Federal Union to the Igbo State Union, and now Ohanaeze, our strength has always been rooted in our sense of brotherhood and shared purpose.ā€

Mbah emphasized that the Igbo community could achieve greater progress by speaking with one collective voice rather than acting in isolation. Comparing unity to a quiver of arrows, he reiterated that strength lies in solidarity and collaboration.

The governor also paid tribute to past Igbo leaders, particularly Dr. Michael Okpara, the Premier of the old Eastern Region, citing his legacy as an example of what can be achieved when patriotism and statesmanship guide leadership.

ā€œNow more than ever, we must channel the spirit of our predecessors to achieve our collective aspirations and bring development across Ala Igbo,ā€ he urged.

The election marks a pivotal moment for Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, as it continues to champion the interests of the Igbo people globally. Mbah’s call for unity has further underscored the importance of working together to foster progress and development in the region.
