Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting healthcare and education by donating an additional N20 million to the proposed College of Nursing Sciences in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Obi, who visited the institution at Faith Foundation Hospital, described the initiative as a crucial step toward improving healthcare training in Nigeria. His visit follows an initial one in November 2023, during which he pledged to support the college’s establishment with a seed donation of N20 million.
“I was particularly impressed by the remarkable progress they have made so far,” Obi said, commending the efforts of the institution’s proprietor, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, the Bishop of Nsukka Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
Encouraged by the development, Obi donated an additional N20 million and assured the institution of his continued support until its completion. He emphasized the significance of investing in health and education as a means to reduce poverty and drive national development.
“The College will stand as another vital health institution committed to training our people in critical areas that will contribute immensely to primary healthcare, nursing, and other allied disciplines,” he stated.
Obi reiterated that building a better and more progressive Nigeria requires sustained investment in knowledge acquisition and skill development. He emphasized that education and healthcare are fundamental pillars of national growth, and initiatives such as the establishment of the College of Nursing Sciences will play a crucial role in empowering individuals with the expertise needed to drive societal advancement. By equipping citizens with quality education and professional training, Obi believes that such efforts will not only enhance human capital development but also create a more prosperous and self-sufficient future for the nation.
