Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting critical sectors of national development. On a recent visit to the College of Nursing Sciences in Amichi, Anambra State, Obi engaged with the institution’s management, staff, and students, offering words of encouragement and support.
Reflecting on his tenure as governor, Obi recalled his visit to the Amichi Diocesan Hospital, which was then in a state of neglect. His collaboration with the hospital’s proprietor, Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor, led to the establishment of the School of Nursing in Amichi. This institution has since evolved into the College of Nursing Sciences. Obi expressed pride in the college’s recent academic achievement—a 100% pass rate in the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria examinations conducted in November.

In recognition of their progress and to further support the training of healthcare professionals, Obi donated ₦10 million to the college adding to his numerous donations to other institutions. He praised the proprietor, management, staff, and students for their collective efforts in advancing the institution’s success.

Obi emphasized that sustained investment in essential sectors like healthcare and education is vital for Nigeria’s growth. He reiterated his vision for a new Nigeria, where strategic development drives national progress.
“Through our continuous investment in these critical areas of development, we will be able to move our nation forward and build the new Nigeria we all look forward to,” Obi stated.
The financial support is expected to enhance the college’s capacity to train more nurses, contributing significantly to the healthcare workforce in Nigeria.
