Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has once again demonstrated his commitment to advancing education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. During a recent visit to Madonna College of Health Technology in Olokoro, Abia State, Obi donated N10 million to support the institution’s efforts in training health professionals, whose work is crucial in addressing Nigeria’s pressing healthcare challenges.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi emphasized the importance of institutions like Madonna College in bridging the gap in Nigeria’s health sector, which faces a dire shortage of skilled professionals. “With our health sector in Nigeria suffering from a severe shortage of health professionals, institutions like these that contribute immeasurably to the training of health professionals should be supported to do more,” he said.
Obi highlighted his commitment to health and education, sectors he described as pivotal to national development. He also reiterated his call for increased government funding to these critical areas, urging policymakers to prioritize aggressive investments in education and healthcare to secure the future of the nation.
During his engagement with students, Obi encouraged them to view themselves as agents of change and critical contributors to national development. “I took time to encourage the students to look beyond their academic journey and see themselves as critical contributors to the development of our nation and change agents contributing to a better humanity,” he stated in his post.
Obi also expressed his gratitude to the institution’s proprietor, management, and staff for their dedication to improving healthcare training in Nigeria, commending their efforts to equip the next generation of professionals.
This visit to Madonna College underscores Peter Obi’s consistent advocacy for advancing human development through targeted support to education and health institutions across Nigeria.
