In a gesture of respect and recognition, Mr. Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, visited former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) at his residence in Minna, Niger State.
The visit, which took place shortly after Obi’s trip to Jigawa State, was an opportunity for the politician to extend New Year wishes to the elder statesman and engage in discussions on pressing national issues.
General Ibrahim Babangida, widely regarded as a father figure and influential leader in Nigeria, served as the country’s military president from 1985 to 1993. During his tenure, he implemented several structural reforms and played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s modern political landscape. Now retired, he resides in Minna, where he continues to provide guidance and share his wealth of experience with leaders and stakeholders from across the country.
Speaking about the visit, Peter Obi highlighted the value of General Babangida’s insights and advice. “General Babangida’s wisdom and perspectives remain very important,” Obi posted on his X Handle. “I always deeply appreciate the opportunity to visit him and listen to his invaluable advice and words of wisdom.”
The meeting underscores the enduring relevance of seasoned statesmen like General Babangida in fostering dialogue and providing mentorship to emerging leaders, especially during critical moments in Nigeria’s history.
