In a bid to enhance the welfare of judicial officers, the Rivers State government has commissioned seven sets of five-bedroom duplexes for judges as part of the 2021 Judicial Officers Housing Scheme.
The project was officially inaugurated by the Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi. Speaking at the commissioning, the government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing policies that improve the living conditions of judicial officers while fostering overall development in the state.
The initiative underscores the administration’s dedication to strengthening the judiciary and ensuring a conducive environment for legal professionals in Rivers State.
Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, having assumed office in May 2023. His tenure has been marked by a political crisis stemming from his fallout with his predecessor and political mentor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The crisis escalated when lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, loyal to Wike, attempted to impeach Fubara. The political turmoil has led to divisions within the state’s leadership, with some lawmakers defecting to the opposition. Despite the challenges, Fubara has continued implementing key policies aimed at development, such as the recent judicial housing initiative.
