Soludo Declares Support for Tinubu’s Second Term as APGA Aligns with APC

In a move that could significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term. Speaking during the President’s one-day visit to the state, Soludo announced that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially adopted Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the next presidential race.

The announcement was made as President Tinubu commissioned a series of legacy projects completed by the Soludo administration, including the new Anambra State Government House, the Solution Fun City, and the newly erected Light Tower in Awka. Tinubu also inaugurated the Emeka Anyaoku International Centre at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Governor Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, framed the endorsement as a continuation of APGA’s long-standing tradition of aligning with the federal government when national interests are at stake. “Our party has always embraced progressive ideals. In 2011, we stood with the President and today, we stand again. APGA remains committed to strategic collaboration with the centre,” Soludo said during the event.

He praised President Tinubu’s leadership, particularly his economic policies and bold infrastructure strides, referencing his efforts to “tame the Atlantic” in Lagos and his resolve to navigate Nigeria’s challenging economic terrain. “Nigeria will survive, and Anambra will continue to rise. That’s why we are not only supporting Mr. President — we are backing him to succeed,” Soludo added.

The President, in turn, commended Soludo’s governance style and results, expressing admiration for the visible transformation across Anambra State. During a town hall gathering at the renovated Alex Ekwueme Square, Tinubu called Soludo “a brilliant mind, a friend, and a strong ally.”

“Here in Anambra, there is clearly a solution — and that solution is Soludo,” Tinubu declared, hinting at support for Soludo’s re-election in November.

The political ripple effects of APGA’s support are already being felt. The APC, currently in control of Imo and Ebonyi states, may now see a broader pathway into the South-East, a region historically cautious of federal alignment. The endorsement, however, has triggered mixed reactions. While supporters hail it as a strategic alliance that strengthens national unity, critics label it a move born of political calculation rather than ideology.

Further bolstering Tinubu’s base, recent defections have seen Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and multiple state and federal lawmakers shift allegiance to the APC. In Edo State, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and two colleagues also announced their defection.

As regional political lines continue to shift and alliances realign, President Tinubu’s support in the South-East and South-South appears to be gaining momentum — setting the stage for what promises to be a consequential election cycle.
