Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has reiterated the nation’s dedication to safeguarding regional peace and security. He emphasized that Nigeria will not allow its borders to be used as launchpads for attacks on neighboring countries nor host foreign military bases.

Gen. Musa made this assertion on Thursday during a Christmas luncheon with troops of “Operation Fansan Yamma” in Sokoto. Speaking to the troops, he highlighted the military’s readiness to confront emerging security threats and stressed the collective responsibility of all Nigerians in maintaining national security.

“National security is not solely the responsibility of the military. It requires a collective effort. Unfortunately, some individuals exploit religious and ethnic sentiments to mislead communities,” Musa stated.

Citing historical precedents, he warned against deceptive alliances, referencing the Lakurawa, whom he described as a group that initially appeared friendly but later became a significant security threat.

“We have the capacity and capability to handle our security challenges. What we can do is collaborate with other nations through training programs—sending our personnel abroad and welcoming theirs to enhance our operations,” he added.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Gen. Musa extended assurances to neighboring countries, including Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Benin, and Togo, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to mutual security and collaboration.

“Any criminal element using Nigerian soil to attack our neighbors is an enemy of Nigeria. We will take decisive action against such threats,” he declared.

The Defence Chief further pledged solidarity with neighboring nations and reiterated the military’s dedication to neutralizing threats to regional stability. He also issued a stern warning to communities aiding criminal elements, urging them to expel such individuals or face the consequences of military action.

“We respect human rights but will act decisively against those who threaten national security,” Musa warned.

Gen. Musa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Armed Forces. He also thanked Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu and the people of the state for their steadfast support of military operations in the region.

“Our loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is unwavering, and we remain committed to defending our fatherland,” he affirmed.

Addressing the troops, Musa commended their bravery, resilience, and professionalism. “You exemplify the finest traditions of the Armed Forces. Stay united, vigilant, and continue to make us proud,” he said.
