As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrives in Anambra State for a high-level engagement with stakeholders, the state government has issued a directive prohibiting the wearing of party-branded outfits at the official reception venue.
The decision, announced Thursday by Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Political Matters, underscores a broader effort to foster unity and minimize political tension during the President’s working visit.
President Tinubu is expected to hold a town hall meeting with state stakeholders at the newly renovated Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka. He will also inaugurate a series of infrastructure projects described as “legacy achievements,” including the newly constructed state government house and the Solution Fun City.
To ensure a decorum-driven atmosphere, the state has urged all attendees—regardless of political affiliation—to appear in neutral, non-partisan attire.

“This event is about governance, not political grandstanding,” Dr. Obiogbolu emphasized in a statement. “Everyone attending should come in mufti. We’ve advised against APGA, APC, or support group uniforms to preserve the integrity of the occasion and prevent distractions.”
Insiders suggest the directive emerged following reports that various support groups—particularly from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)—were mobilizing members to attend in full party regalia. Such plans, sources say, raised concerns about the potential for rival displays of loyalty that could politicize the event.
One political aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, hinted that national party leaders, including those within the APC, were cautious about the optics of the visit. With the state’s gubernatorial race approaching, any visible imbalance might have been interpreted as political signaling.
“The President’s team made it clear that a neutral setting was essential,” the source noted. “They didn’t want the visit misconstrued as a campaign gesture or a slight against any candidate, especially in this politically sensitive period.”
In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has confirmed the deployment of 1,531 personnel across the state to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the President’s visit.
