AWKA, Nigeria – Valentine Ozigbo, a renowned business leader and 2021 Anambra governorship candidate, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, signaling a new chapter in his political journey.

In an official statement, the Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation confirmed that Ozigbo formally registered as an APC member on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at his ward in Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. This significant political move was marked by a visit from APC members in the area, who welcomed him into the party.

ā€œThe Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation is pleased to announce that Valentine Ozigbo, a distinguished business leader, philanthropist, and visionary politician, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Africa’s largest political party,ā€ the statement read.

The announcement highlighted Ozigbo’s discussions with party executives and stakeholders at both the ward and local government levels. During these engagements, he articulated his vision for a progressive and prosperous Anambra, emphasizing his commitment to transformational leadership, economic growth, and inclusive governance.

ā€œOzigbo’s decision to align with the APC stems from his strong belief in progressive governance and his desire to work with forward-thinking leaders to champion policies that will uplift Anambra and Nigeria at large,ā€ the statement added. He also assured the party of his dedication to its growth and success in the state.

The APC Amesi Ward Chairman, Chidi Johnpaul Muokwe, described Ozigbo as a beacon of hope for Anambra, stating, ā€œHe represents the light in the darkness that Anambra earnestly needs.ā€ Similarly, Chief Godson C. Anyadike, speaking on behalf of the Aguata LGA party executives, expressed enthusiasm about Ozigbo’s entry into the party.

ā€œIn the history of APC in Aguata, no new member has ever been received with this level of excitement and grace,ā€ Anyadike remarked.

Several party executives and stakeholders, including Ogbatuluenyi Amesi, Euzebius Ezeliora, Later Rain Chukwuma Ezenwankwo, and Nkechi Abanobi, lauded Ozigbo’s political pedigree and leadership qualities.

Ozigbo’s defection also prompted notable figures from the Labour Party to join him in moving to the APC. Chief Dr. Tony Offiah, a Labour Party chieftain, and Chief Sir Afam Okpalauzuegbu, the Labour Party Secretary in Aguata LGA, announced their decision to follow Ozigbo’s lead, hinting at a larger political realignment in the state.

Speaking on his next steps, Ozigbo stated that he would release a formal statement after consultations with the national leadership of the APC in the coming days.

Valentine Ozigbo first entered the political scene in 2020 after resigning as President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc. His candidacy in the 2021 Anambra governorship election galvanized one of the largest grassroots political movements in southeastern Nigeria, culminating in a strong performance where he finished second to Professor Charles Soludo.

Having officially resigned from the Labour Party on Wednesday, Ozigbo’s move to the APC signifies a strategic shift in Anambra’s political landscape, reinforcing his commitment to unity, progress, and a shared vision for a more prosperous future.
