Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray and the Super Eagles, has refuted claims that he assaulted a Turkish journalist and tried to bribe him to cover up the incident. The allegations surfaced after Osimhen scored the winning penalty that led Galatasaray to a 1-0 victory against Konyaspor in a Turkish Super Lig match on Saturday. In response, Osimhen labeled the accusations as baseless and affirmed his intention to pursue legal action against his accuser.
Speaking to the press after the match, Osimhen recounted the incident, stating, “I went to eat with my friends, and as I was returning to my van, these guys suddenly appeared out of nowhere with cameras in my face, and I was shocked.
“Obviously, you have seen the video circulating online. I was visibly surprised and asked them what the problem was and why they were filming me without prior notice. They identified themselves as paparazzi. I asked them what they wanted, but they provided no response and continued recording.”
Osimhen further explained that his friends intervened, reminding the journalists of professional etiquette when requesting interviews. “I never punched or assaulted anyone. I simply approached them and insisted they delete my picture, as I have every right to make such a request,” he said. “I am aware of how these things work, and I expected them to fabricate stories. If I had truly hit him, he deserves justice; but if he lied, he will face the consequences of the law.”
The accuser, identified as Posta journalist Tolga Bozduman, alleged that Osimhen became aggressive when he and his colleagues attempted to photograph him outside a venue. According to Bozduman’s account published on Posta.com.tr, Osimhen reportedly charged at him, attempted to seize his camera, and physically assaulted him.
Bozduman stated, “Three colleagues and I were outside the venue taking pictures of Osimhen. When the camera flashes went off, he snapped. He rushed at me, tried to grab my camera, and punched me in the head. My right side still hurts.”
He further claimed that Osimhen resorted to offering money in exchange for deleting the footage and allegedly threatened them, saying, “I will destroy you,” when they refused.
The controversy continues to unfold as Osimhen maintains his innocence, insisting that he will pursue legal action to clear his name and ensure justice prevails.
