Chibuzor Mary Ndubuisi, a resident of Umuahia North Local Government Area in Abia State, has accused the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia of medical negligence following a caesarean section she underwent in 2022. According to her, the surgical team at FMC Umuahia left a towel inside her abdomen, which went undetected until months later. Mary has now shared a video that documents her harrowing experience and the complications that arose as a result of this oversight.

In the video, Mary narrates her ordeal, detailing how the negligence of the medical team at FMC Umuahia went undetected for months. She explained that she began experiencing excruciating pain and discomfort, which prompted her to undergo a series of medical scans. These scans revealed a foreign object in her abdomen.

A surgical procedure conducted at another medical facility unveiled the shocking discovery: a towel left behind during her earlier operation. According to Mary, the prolonged presence of the towel contributed to the growth of a tumor, the tragic loss of her seven-month pregnancy in October 2024, and severe damage to her intestines, which were subsequently removed.

Mary reported the incident to the management of FMC Umuahia but alleges that they refused to take responsibility. In the video, she claims that one of the doctors dismissed her complaints and even challenged her to “do her worst.” She further stated that she has received threats for pursuing justice.

The video evidence provides a visual account of her suffering and highlights the aftermath of the alleged negligence. Mary is now calling for accountability, compensation, and justice.

The situation has sparked outrage, with many calling on the Federal Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities to investigate the claims and ensure accountability. At the time of reporting, FMC Umuahia has not issued a public response to the allegations.
